Press Freedom Day: A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the face of the Environmental Crisis

The Department of Journalism at Stellenbosch University hosts its annual celebration for World Press Freedom Day. This year, UNESCO has designated the theme as "A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the face of the Environmental Crisis," highlighting the crucial role journalism plays in addressing environmental challenges.

Speakers include:
- Leonie Joubert: Science Writer and Journalist
- Rupert Koopman: Conservation Manager at the Botanical Society of South Africa
- David Le Page: Co-founder of Fossil Free South Africa
- Dominic A. Okoliko: CREST Postdoctoral Fellow, Stellenbosch University

Press Freedom Day also marks the launch of the BA Honours Class of 2024 newspaper on the environmental crisis titled "The State of the Elements - South Africa's Climate Crisis."

This event is part of the Democracy@30 Series, in collaboration with the Stellenbosch University Museum. RSVP is essential and refreshments will be served.
